On the International Mountains day with weather fully in favor, GET Nepal organized a green hike at Chandragiri trail as a logistics partner for the United Nations Nepal in collaboration with UNDP Nepal. Chandragiri hiking route is a quite popular hiking route around Kathmandu valley offering a 180 panoramic view of mountain ranges like Langtang, Annapurna, Manaslu, Ganesh himal and Gaurishankar.

With a team of 33 people from different independent and UN associated organizations , we hit the trail starting from Machhegaun. With a light breakfast and introductory round, the team quickly bonded over one common ground which was “small grounded effort to bring down climate change”. The mountain hand gesture was used by everyone throughout the hike to honor the International mountains day and to raise awareness on climate change in the global scenario.

Concerned with the plastic waste everywhere in the beautiful Chandragiri trail, the green hike team decided to collect waste and handed it over to Chandragiri cable car operation and locals. A small informal round of discussion around how small steps and efforts can actually help minimize climate change on a much bigger level was reflected in the conversation throughout the hike. Green Hikers shared their own personal experiences surrounding their effort to minimize wastes was really inspiring.

Hike was then concluded with a round visit to Bhaleshwor temple and everyone descended to Chandragiri bus on the cable car. This green hike was a perfect combination of outdoors, networking and awareness for the young green generation.
